ABOUT HAMMERQUIST & NEBEKER

Fred Hammerquist, Founder

Truth in advertising: an oft-repeated and seldom kept promise.

And when we say "truth in advertising," we're not talking about ads that don't lie. Living up to that promise should be a given. If you'll let us drop some industry jargon here, we're talking about ads that communicate truths. You've seen them. They're rare, but you've seen them. The ones that reach right inside and pluck some hard-to-reach internal chord. The ones that send blood to your cheeks. The ones that peel back the curtain on something wonderful or funny or tragic about life, and leave us nodding our heads in agreement. "Yeah. That's how it is." Most importantly, they leave us aghast and grateful that we actually appreciated an advertisement.

As easy as those ads are to appreciate, they're quite difficult to do. Hence the rarity. But every time we sit down to fill a page on behalf of a client, that's what we're shooting for. The most profound and simple thing of all, and the only thing that works:

The Truth.

Fred serves a dual role as director of strategy and manager of client services. As director of strategy, Fred is responsible for air tight communications and ensures the caliber of all work is up to his exacting standards. As client service director, Fred offers a single, senior point of client contact and a place for the buck to stop (if ever necessary).

Prior to founding Hammerquist and Nebeker, Fred was the Executive Creative Director for DDB Seattle. During his tenure, he helped lead the Seattle office (one of the three largest agencies in the Northwest) to numerous account wins and international creative awards. Before arriving at DDB, Fred owned and led his own advertising firm, Hammerquist & Saffel, for ten years before selling it to Foote Cone & Belding in February 2000. Hammerquist has been one of the most awarded creative people in the Northwest over the past 15 years.

Troy Nebeker, Founder

For a long time, "designer" ranked right up there with "poet" and "post-post-modern novelist" in the pantheon of pretentious job titles. It was a dark time, when good design
was only for the uppermost crust of brands and the people
with the fttest wallets. It's an unfair generalization to make of
all design (and all designers). Certainly there were exceptions.
But it is perfectly fair to say that designers ruined chunky
black glasses for everybody by turning them into a symbol
for misplaced egotism.

But recently, design has undergone a much-needed democratization. Thanks to design-forward brands like Apple and Target, people have started to realize that the stuff they buy doesn't have to be ugly, it doesn't have to come in an
ugly package, and it's visual communication doesn't have
to be ugly either.

As more people realize and demand it, brands in every category start to catch on. We couldn't be happier. We've spent our careers carrying the flag of beautiful, egalitarian, brand-serving design. Trying to convince people that there is not one facet of visual communication that good design can't improve. And thank goodness, we're finally starting to fit in.
